Purpose statement

YWAM Leeds is a discipleship community living and working in the Harehills and Chapeltown area of Leeds. We want to develop a creative space where the community is welcome, can learn creative skills and most importantly develop themselves as whole people. We want to listen to people’s stories and share our own so that this will inspire us all to change and bring positive change to our city, our nation and the rest of the world.

Vision Statement

YWAM Leeds is all about young people. Through various grassroot projects, local and abroad especially in the areas of arts and social justice, there will be opportunity to learn new skills, gain confidence, meet new people, different ways of life and be mentored. Its about giving hope and releasing dreams that were never believed possible.

What is YWAM?Every story has a beginning, and most begin without a whole lot of hoopla or fanfare. Not ours. Ours began in 1960 with a zealous young man named Loren Cunningham who, with a vision, seriously rocked the boat of acceptable-missionary-models. He saw young people, teenagers, as waves pounding the shores of the continents, bringing with them the message of hope to a dying world. Now, if Loren had brothers he may have ended up like Joseph. Instead he managed to escape with little more than a bunch of people thinking he was, well, a dreamer. A little perseverance mixed with large amounts of grace soon led to the birth of Youth With A Mission.Today Youth With A Mission (YWAM) is a global movement of Christians of all ages, races, and nationalities from just about every sort of background you can imagine. To date there are approximately 17,000 full-time missionaries working at over 1,100 locations. United in our common goal, we have set out to the ends of the earth to know God and make Him known.

The DTS is an adventure of a lifetime. It teaches you about missionary life, about who God is, about prayer, about really loving those around you, and about not settling for the mundane. Its all about transformation, your own, your community, and the world.

There are 8 months of hands on practical application through prayer, evangelism, service, and local projects. Followed by roughly 3 months of overseas outreach. Are you up for the challenge?

lecture phase: to know God
The Lecture Phase will be a journey of learning, with 12 weeks of lectures given by inspiring speakers from around the world. You will have the opportunity to hear incredible teaching on topics that will include:- Hearing Gods Voice- Missions- Post Modernity- Relationships- Intercession and Spiritual Warfare- Father Heart of GodWe really value the fact that we all learn in so many different ways so you will also get the opportunity to go deep in what you are learning through small group discussion, one-to-one mentoring, reading books, and creative projects. We recognise that so much of our true heart transformation takes place as we seek God and enter His presence, we will therefore follow a rhythm of passionately pursing God in times of worship and prayer.You will also have the opportunity to take what you learn and really process how it works out in reality as you work along side YWAMs ministries in the community. volunteer with local churches, and join in the work of other charities/NGOs in Leeds.

outreach phase: to make Him known

In the summer we will be heading to London for the Olympics. There is going to be loads of opportunites:

-Londons Caribbean community

-Working with Artists

-Intercession

-Serving (i.e. Airport Chaplains)

Having focused on the Caribbean throughout the year you will get the opportunity to live there for 2 months. The outreach is where you replicate what you have learned during the year. Things like, hearing Gods voice, how to set up and get involved in ministries, in order to demonstrate what the Kindgom of God could look like in the Caribbean.

Right now its something that we value and want to be a part of YWAM Leeds. We want this ministry to be more than just helping people with in the community but helping transform how a community of individuals sees themselves and each other. Restoration isn't just about setting things right but helping to reclaim dignity and value in communities of individuals.

We are located in Harehills and Chapeltown. Which we think are the best bits of Leeds- though we are biased. It is the most ethnic diversity area in leeds, We heard that there are roughly 72 nationalitys within a 2 mile radius with Carribeans, Pakistanis, and Bangledeshis being three of the biggest ethnic groups.
